Medical alert systems compared
Five providers, side by side. No prices: they change often and we do not verify them, so check current pricing directly with the provider. We also do not list specific features here (in-home vs. mobile coverage, fall detection, monitoring-centre details): they vary by plan and change often, so confirm them directly with each provider rather than relying on a comparison table.

| System | Best for |
|---|---|
| Medical Care Alert | Someone who wants a simple in-home base unit with a mobile add-on for outings. |
| Bay Alarm Medical | A household that wants a long-established provider with both in-home and on-the-go options. |
| Medical Guardian | Someone who wants a wider range of device styles, including watch-style wearables. |
| LifeFone | A household that wants caregiver-facing app features alongside the alert button itself. |
| MobileHelp | Someone who is out of the house often and wants the mobile unit to be the main device, not an add-on. |
How to choose
Work through these questions before comparing brand names, because they narrow the field faster than any feature list.
- Does the person still leave the house alone? If yes, you need a mobile unit with cellular coverage, not just an in-home base station.
- Is there reliable mobile coverage where they live and where they go? A mobile alert system is only as good as the signal in that specific area. Ask the provider about coverage in that postcode, not coverage in general.
- Who actually answers the call? All five providers here use a monitoring centre, not a family member, as the first response. Ask what happens after that: do they call a listed contact, dispatch emergency services, or both, and in what order.
- What happens if the person can't speak? Ask each provider directly. This matters more than almost any other feature on the table above.
- What are the cancellation terms? Ask before signing up, not when you want to cancel. Some providers require a written notice period or charge for unreturned equipment.
What this does not replace
A medical alert system covers the moment nobody else is there to help. It does not replace a care plan, regular check-ins, or a plan for what happens after the call is answered, such as who has a key to get in. Treat it as one layer among several, not the whole safety plan.
Never paste someone's medical records, ID numbers or bank details into a chatbot. Remove names, dates of birth and account numbers first, or work from a summary instead of the original document. See AI safety for carers.
